What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a specific learning disability, characterized by difficulties with accurate or fluent word recognition, as well as poor spelling and language decoding.
This means your child has trouble learning, and may have trouble with reading comprehension and a reduced reading experience.
This, in turn, can lead to difficulties in age-appropriate vocabulary growth, and can negatively impact general fund of knowledge.
Dyslexia is likely to be present at birth and to have life-long impact. Those with dyslexia have difficulty in the sound structure of words. They are also likely to have problems in rapid naming, working memory, and processing speed. When an individual has difficulty with words, this can decrease normal development of other cognitive skills.
Dyslexia tends to be resistant to conventional methods, though there are specific interventions that can improve capacities in affected areas.
